It was very full, the water was almost to the blacktop and shortly after we arrived, a ranger came to tell everyone they had to leave for safety purposes.
We visited a few weeks ago when all 10 flood gates were open and dumping water like there was no tomorrow. We first started right at the wall and then drove down the road to the boat ramp.
It was wonderful we launched our boat there and went fishing. My partner and myself caught about 45 keeper crappie. The only problem was with the area, at night there's no light at the boat ramp. They have lights there but they are inoperative and have been for quite some time. My understanding that that DNR is responsible for maintaining those lights. So if they could repair those lights it would be much appreciated by we night fisherman. Thank you!
When you see the signs on the side of the road that read "Overlook" or Dam anything, explore it. There are many nooks and crannies around the dam that we haven't even discovered yet.

It's a nice place to picnic and if you've never seen the dam structure up close, it's pretty impressive. Apparently in the old days, you could tour the facility, but that doesn't happen anymore.
The place is a very popular place for catfisherman.. but recent activity in theft and shady character's at night have really put a damper on things.. The parking lot and boat ramp should have lighting to help aid in finding the boat ramp at night and also keeping the dope heads and thieves away. It is right next to a power plant. So I'm pretty sure power isn't the problem lol.
Both areas have ample parking but only the boat ramp had restrooms and those are restrooms you should ONLY use if you are super desperate. :-(
Part is under construction and have no more tours of plant but it was pretty and have several different spots to park and enjoy the water or scenery
